Quality Assurance in Education - extension
Halifax' EU-funded QA project has been granted a major extension.
The QA project is assisting the Serbian Ministry of Education to modernise the national examinations system. It has helped a successful pilot of the "matura" for primary education, which will soon become standard in all primary schools. With the project's assistance, the Ministry is now planning to pilot the secondary matura. This follows the pattern of development in most European countries, in which school exams have replaced entrance exams for access to tertiary education. A dedicated examinations unit has been established in the Ministry.
The 2-year project was due to finish at the end of 2012, but will now continue to the end of 2013.
The project is implemented in consortium with IBF and the Slovenian institutes concerned with examinations and school curriculum, ZRSS and RIC.
Consumer Protection Conference
15 March 2012 The Consumer Protection project held a conference to present the results of a major survey carried out to examine Serbian citizens' knowledge of consumer protection issues. The project team concluded that public awareness was at a level comparable to that seen in Poland, but that many did not believe that they could obtain redress for a complaint and were disposed to give up too easily.
The project will assist the ministry in further alignment of the legal framework with the EU Acquis, strengthen the capacity of the ministry, the out-of-court dispute-settlement bodies, the courts, consumer associations and others, strengthen cooperation among public institutions and private bodies, and increase awareness on consumer protection policy.
